What we do
Mental Health Research Canada serves to advance mental health in Canada by investing in talent, generating useful knowledge and evidence, and driving positive change for the system, communities and individuals through our strategic projects.
Specifically, we:
build the talent pool by investing in early career researchers (studentships/fellowships)
“seed fund” grants with partner funds in forward looking areas of mental health
engage in data collection, analysis and “rapid” reporting
lead and partner on other strategic initiatives relating to our mission
To see MHRC’s work in action, read on about our national polling work, our funded research projects, and other ongoing initiatives including our grants, studentships, national tracking of the mental health of Canadians and workplace mental health.
Why invest in MHRC?
Because Canada does not have a mental health system that works for Canadians. We are a unique organization with a mission positioned to work towards significant improvement. We do not have programs – we work to ensure mental health improves through data-informed decision making, by investing in a pipeline of mental health talent, and by finding and supporting research that has an immediate impact. Our work is designed to change the way mental health is delivered in Canada – impacting every program and service in this country.
We are a neutral, trusted source of mental health information and up to date reporting on the state of mental health in Canada – reporting on what is working and what isn’t, who needs help and why. This information is critical to effectively deliver services and build a responsive, robust mental health system. We are doing work that no one else in the sector can do (ask us why).
We cannot possibly hope to address mental health challenges in Canada without significant changes to how services are supported and delivered. We don’t have enough practitioners to serve all the need (There will never be enough money or practitioners in the current model.) We believe change is possible. We need your help to make that change happen.
